JUST FOR FUN!
OOBLECK
This recipe is guaranteed to fascinate your children for hours! It's both
a liquid and a solid! You can pour it and roll it in a ball in your hands.
You can slap it and it won't splatter but when you hold your hand in it, your
hand gets wet! The secret is to keep it moving! It's simple to make, only
3 ingredients found in most kitchens (water, food coloring and cornstarch).
It's easy to clean up but it does leave a fine powder residue that is cleans
right. The best place for children to play with OOBLECK is on a table, bar
or my favorite, OUTSIDE. If they are outside, all I have to do is lightly
spray the play area with water, and its gone, totally dissolved!
In a round cake pan, pour ¼
cup water.
Add your favorite food coloring.
In a measuring cup, measure out ½ and one teaspoon cup cornstarch.
Stir the cornstarch in to the water spoon full at a time, completely mixing
before adding more. If you dump all of the cornstarch at once, you will have
a hard blob that you can't do anything with.
This recipe makes enough for one
child to enjoy. Double the recipe for more than one child and they'll have
double the fun!
SILLY PUTTY new!
½ cup Elmer's glue
½ cup liquid starch
Food coloring
In a medium-size mixing bowl, pour in glue, add favorite coloring and slowly add starch, kneading with hands. The more you knead it, the better it jells. Mixture may be lightly blotted with paper towel to remove excess liquid. Store in a zip-lock bag. Fun for all ages!
COLORFUL CRAYONS new!
Foil baking cups (the kind used
for cupcakes)
Crayons
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place
baking cups in a muffin pan. Remove paper from crayons and break or chop into
¼" pieces. Place pieces in cups, filling half full with a mixture
of colors. For an added sparkle, add a few glitter crayons. Bake for approximately
5 minutes, removing as soon as chunks are melted. Take a small disposable
object such as a plastic knife or broken pencil and gently swirl colors around.
Allow to cool completely, remove from paper and create a beautiful coloring
masterpiece!
SLIME new!
8 oz bottle of Elmer's glue
one large bowl, one small bowl
8 oz water
food coloring
1 cup warm water
1 ½ tsp borax powder
Empty entire bottle of glue into
a large bowl. Fill the empty glue bottle with water
and add to glue. Mix well. Add food coloring.
In smaller bowl, stir warm water and borax powder until mostly dissolved. Slowly string constantly, pour borax/water into the glue. Stir and swirl the mixture with your hands until globs are formed and it slowly oozes from your slippery hands. Mixture should be slimy, not dripping. Kids really love playing with this slimy goo. Be sure to keep them away from carpet and furniture.
